10’ – 13’ KAYAK FLOTATION

This flotation bag set is sized to fit touring kayaks and long displacement hull whitewater kayaks 10-13’ in length with foam pillars or walls running lengthwise. Flotation for whitewater kayaks should be slightly larger than the space being filled. It should fit snugly from just behind the seat into the extreme stern of the kayak and from the forward end of the foot braces or bulkhead into the bow.

Kayak float bags are essential to safe kayaking. They keep a kayak afloat even when a paddler has to wet exit, protecting the kayak from damage. The boat will not fill with water, floats high over rocks, and is easier to retrieve.

Harmony pioneered the modern flotation bag more than thirty years ago. With constant product improvement and the widest selection of sizes, Harmony remains on the leading edge, building the best flotation available, in any price range.

The key to Harmony quality lies in careful design, stringent manufacturing standards, and two specially formulated materials.

VINYL

Harmony Vinyl offers premium performance and value. The 20mil thick, stretchy vinyl has features not available in other fabrics at this price.

The entire vinyl bag stretches, so there is little stress on the seams, the flotation lasts a lot longer.

The thick material makes a thick very strong seam weld.

Better abrasion resistance than any woven fabric.

Temperature regulating, colored material, so the flotation is less likely to burst on hot, sunny days.

Exceptionally soft feel and crack resistance down to -30 degrees F.

Anti-mildew treatment, easy to repair.

KAYAK FLOTATION INSTALLATION

The split flotation bags are designed to fit up into the ends of the craft on either side of the foam pillar. The stern bags should fit from just behind the seat, snug into the end. Spray some 303 Protectant and partly inflate the float to make it easier to slide up into end. The bow bags fit from just beyond the foot braces or bulkhead forward. If your kayak has a bulkhead you will need to remove it to install the bow bags. You may wish to drill a hole in the bulkhead for the inflation tube, then seal it back up with a silicon sealant, otherwise inflation is difficult. Finally, you should tie your float bags into the kayak so they can’t get lost during a swim or transport, glue D-rings to the side of the foam pillar if you don’t have another attachment fitting.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR
HARMONY FLOTATION

1. Do not over inflate! Excessive pressure on the seams and fabric is the main reason flotation bags fail. A float bag is properly inflated when finger pressure can depress the bag 3-4”.
2. Check pressure periodically through the day. Exposure to sun and changes in elevation can radically change the pressure of the float bag.
3. Be particularly careful when your kayak is on your roof rack even flotation not directly exposed to the sun can heat to bursting.
4. Remove flotation when transporting kayak on roof rack or use a rim cover to prevent turbulence from causing undue abrasion.
5. Rinse flotation after exposure to salt water.
6. Do not store flotation wet. Clean with mild soap and water solvents or cleaners may damage the fabric.
6. We strongly recommend periodic use of 303 Protectant on flotation to protect them from UV.
